Greenwood’s Extra Mile Explanations: TrailBlazer vs. Blazer

Recently, Chevrolet has released the 2021 TrailBlazer, leaving many customers thrilled about the return of the popular SUV. With the Blazer having made its return to the Chevrolet lineup in 2019, it is pretty easy to confuse the two. Luckily, Greenwood has your back. While the two SUVs have quite a bit in common beyond the similar name, there are several areas where the two differ. We will highlight some key differences between the two vehicles and help you decide which one is right for you. 

 

Size 

At first glance, you will notice that the TrailBlazer is smaller in comparison to the Blazer. It has been deemed a compact SUV, whereas the Blazer is a crossover SUV. They both fill gaps between SUVs in Chevrolet’s SUV lineup. In terms of size, the TrailBlazer fits somewhere between the Trax and Equinox, and the Blazer bridges the gap between the Equinox and Traverse. Both have the capacity to seat 5 people, but the Blazer is more spacious and will allow more freedom and storage in the trunk area. 

 

Fuel Economy

Chevrolet has placed an emphasis on fuel economy in their newer models, even for larger SUVs like the Blazer. The new TrailBlazer gets 28 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, while the Blazer gets less at 21mpg city and 28mpg highway. Even though the Blazer’s fuel economy is lower than the TrailBlazer’s, it is still an efficient vehicle. What the TrailBlazer lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in fuel efficiency as it gets more per gallon city and highway, saving you gas money in the process. This decision comes to preference between size and fuel efficiency. 

 

Price 

Price is always one of the most important factors when choosing a vehicle. Thankfully, both SUVs come in at affordable prices, making them both great options for Chevy drivers. The Blazer starts at an affordable $28,800. The base-model Trailblazer has an MSRP starting around $21,000, making both incredibly affordable options in the Chevy lineup.
